How Santa Uses Talent to Save Christmas

Santa leverages his talent analytics efficiently to bring us Christmas every year

Don’t let the jolly laugh and big beard fool you; Santa is all about efficiencies when it comes to getting the most out of his personnel resources. The elves are his operations team, efficiently making toys all year. The flying reindeer are his top notch outside sales team, ensuring product delivery on time worldwide.

However, imagine if Santa treated his employees as interchangeable parts. What if he assumed their characteristics and ambitions were all the same based solely on his (sizeable) gut?

Christmas would never happen and the Grinch would celebrate. A summary of what went wrong may read something like this:

  • Production was delayed due to reindeer expected to produce in spite of lacking opposable thumbs.
  • Delivery grounded due to inclement weather and the elves’ inability to fly.
  • Customers upset globally.

In short, it would be a fiasco!

Instead, Santa used talent analytics to better understand his staff and align talent to his overall strategy. After identifying that elves were more detail oriented than their hooved colleagues, he focused on sourcing operations with elves and reindeers in outside sales where they could focus on delivering the experience. This strategic utilization of resources resulted in a well-run shop, merry employees, and lots of smiles worldwide.
